Southern Ontario is home to fantastic black bear and partridge hunting. The area also boasts some of the best brooke trout fishing in Ontario. Bear hunts take place from 15 August to 30 September and will be limited to two hunters per week.

Black Bear: 5 day hunt, excluding meals $875

Bear Hunt Details:

The price for all bear hunts includes two baited stands per hunter, lodging during hunt and skinning/quartering of your animal. Hunters are responsible for all license fees, transportation to/from camp, 13% provincial sales tax (on hunt fee), meat processing/taxidermy fees, all export permit fees.

Moose Hunt Details:

Hunt pricing is per person and includes meals, lodging, guide service during your hunt and skinning/caping/quartering your animal.Hunters are responsible for transportation to/from camp, license fees, 13% provincial sales tax (on hunt fee), taxidermy fees, meat processing/shipping fees.

Cast and Blast Pricing Includes:

Lodging during your trip, use of Outfitter's boats and information on the best areas to hunt and fish.

Transportation to/from Camp

The lodge is located near mile marker 122-1/2 along the Algoma Central Rail line and is accessible only by train. After clearing customs in Sault Ste. Marie, stop at The Trading Post to pick up all hunting and fishing licenses then head north on Hwy 17 to Frater, ON to meet the train. Click here for directions from Sault Ste. Marie to Frater.

Train fare and schedule information can be found here. Fares from Frater to mile marker 122-1/2 are based on travel within 1 zone. Passengers are allowed 100 pounds of personal luggage. Shipping rates for luggage in excess of 100 lbs can be found at the bottom of the page under "Total Shipment Weights". Hunters wishing to take the train from Sault Ste. Marie may do so; however fares will then be based on travel through 3 zones.

License Fees

  • Non-residents are required to purchase an Ontario Outdoors card for $9.68. This should be done well in advance of your trip. Call 1-800-387-7011 for information on obtaining your card.
  • Non-resident black bear license fee is $219.01
  • Non-resident moose license fee is $438.28
  • Non-resident small game license fee is $109.63
  • Non-resident fishing license fee is $49.02 (eight day license).

Additional Notes on Hunting and Fishing in Ontario

  • Passports are required for travel to/from Canada.
  • Proof of completion of a hunter saftey course is required to hunt in Ontario.
  • US residents transporting firearms into Ontario must complete Non-resident Firearms Declaration Form CAFC 909.  Note: This form is not required for transporting bows into Ontario.
  • US residents returning to the US with firearms must complete US Customs Form 4457. Note: This form is required for transporting rifles or bows back to the US.
  • US residents transporting meat or hides from black bears into the US from Ontario must obtain an Ontario Provincial Export Permit. Export permits are $35 and the outfitter will help you secure them.
